“I said, also at the IPU meeting, that the Trump’s speech was no serious thing,” said Ali Larijani, the Speaker of Iran’s Parliament, in an interview with Russian media NTV and Russia 1. He made the remarks when asked what Iran’s reaction will be to Trump’s new remarks.
To provide his opinion with reason, Mr. Larijani added that “it is because the JCPOA is not a bilateral agreement but it was a deal whose brokering took 30 months and entailed hard negotiations.”
The Iranian top legislator asserted that in addition to US, there are Russia, China, UK, Germany, and France who participated the negotiations. Saying that a UNSC resolution was issued after the accord was clinched, Larijani reminded that Trump has not considered the legal consequences of US withdrawal from the agreement.
“After the recent remarks of Trump, almost all countries have said they do not agree with US president and are still committed to the JCPOA,” reassured the Iranian top law-maker.
He delineated that the accord outlined some technical obligations for Iran and some commitments for the other parties. “Iran has complied with its technical obligations, and as it was devised to let the IAEA judge Iran’s commitment, the agency has certified Iran’s compliance with the deal 8 times so far,” highlighted the Iranian official.
Mr. Larijani underlined it is the responsibility of the IAEA and Mr. Amano to certify whether or not Iran has been committed to the nuclear agreement. He said it is surprising that Trump wants to certify Iran’s compliance with the deal instead of Mr. Amano.
“I agree that since Trump’s ascendance to office, every day we have a new issue in the world and it’s because of his breakfast tweets and the kind of remarks he makes,” stressed the Iranian top MP. “I think that he is suffering from a little narcissism and lack of experience in the field of politics,” he said.
“He has made some campaign promises that I think he would never be able to deliver on,” commented Mr. Larijani on US President Trump.
“Recently I met with Mexican officials and I asked them about the border wall between Mexico and US and they said that it was an impossible thing to do at all,” he elaborated on one of Trump’s campaign promises.
